Whether it's a formal one-on-one sit-down, the unexpected confession, a packed press conference, or an ambush during a stakeout, the secret to a successful interview is knowing how to ask the right question at the right time. This workshop will equip you with dynamic  skills and confidence, while helping you develop a personal interviewing style. This workshop is taught by veteran journalist Betty Ming Liu, who has posed questions to everyone from the Dalai Lama to Donald Trump, as well as trauma victims, convicted murderers, celebrities, and politicians.

This class will provide students with a fun, intensive, hands-on experience guaranteed to instantly improve interview skills. The supportive, interactive setting will give you insightful, specific feedback on your interviewing skills.

In this workshop, you will learn:

  • How to prep for different types of interviews
  • How to listen, and not just hear
  • How to find the story behind the story
  • How to handle the difficult, obnoxious, and reluctant interviewee
  • How to craft this information into a story no one else has
  • How to develop your own personal approach to interviewing
  • How to land that hard-to-get interview
  • How to come across smart in print as well as broadcast interviews

Testimonials

The class was excellent! All of the students had 3 minutes to experience what it's like to be interviewed by the press. After the rest of the class had conducted interviews as member of the press corps, we began to better understand how to formulate questions, how to follow up on hints the interviewee might be throwing out, and how to ask hard questions. Jane Greer

"Betty Ming Liu was great! She immediately set the class at ease, was well-organized, used every second of our four hours together efficiently and effectively! Betty was generous with her feedback, encouragement and constructive comments. Course content was as expected, as described. Timing was perfect. Walked away energized and looking forward to next interview." -- Susan Sawyers

"Betty Ming Liu was a smart, informed journalist who made this info-packed seminar really fun, interesting, and totally helped me feel more confident in my interviewing skills." -- Anna Davies
